What Does it Mean to “Experience the Light”

There is an old song sung by Bill Withers that starts “Ain’t no sunshine when she’s gone. It’s not warm when she’s away.” Perhaps something has happened to you that caused you to feel that all the sunshine and warmth has gone out of your life. Maybe you have lost someone very dear to you or possibly you suddenly found yourself out of a job. Or maybe your single mother got involved with a violent man, or one of your children had a disease or condition that upended your world. There are so many things that can happen in our lives that could make us feel that we have fallen into such darkness that we can’t see a way out.

In all of written history, there was only one person who said, “I am the light of the world.”

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.
--John 8:12

What struck me in many of our stories was when the subject realized that they had gotten to a point where there was nowhere left to go, they realized that Jesus was the only way out. When all their friends and family had turned away, Jesus was still there. They reached for Him and He pulled them out of the hole they had dug for themselves and brought them into the light. And they are still there.
